Welcome Back!

Hello Grade One Families!  Welcome to another exciting year at Nottawa Elementary School.  Your child will be bringing home a MAIL BAG (plastic ziplock bag) with AGENDA (student handbook) inside in their backpack on the first day of school.  Please read through my September Newsletter (I apologize.... it's a lengthy one!).  I have also sent home September Scholastic book order forms with an explanation note about our monthly Scholastic Book Order.  Each night, please initial beside the daily date in the Agenda, and kindly return the Agenda inside the mail bag each and every school day.  Also, please remember to leave the first few lines beside every date in the Agenda BLANK as your child will be writing a daily message in his/her agenda every morning.

There is always a lot of paperwork and various things to remember at the beginning of the school year.  I know it can be a little overwhelming!  Here is a list of things that need to come to school and reminders...

- Follow the Steps in the "Remind Texting App" section of my newsletter to get signed up for this texting communication tool. When you sign up for Remind, please indicate who's parent you are (e.g., Jessica Kutcy - Grace's Mom)
-Orange and Green Student Info Cards filled out and returned (attached to my Sept. Newsletter)
-Fill in the "Student Identification" Page in the Agenda (first page)
-Spare full change of clothes (including underwear) in the large ziplock 'Spare Clothes' bag I sent home home on the first day.
-Reusable water bottle
-A pair on indoor shoes (separate from outdoor shoes) that will be left at school and are appropriate for wearing in the classroom and running around the gym. Please label all indoor/outdoor shoes with a permanent marker. It's best to get in the habit of labeling EVERYTHING!
-School Supplies (listed in my newsletter)
-September Scholastic Book Orders with Cheque Payment by Sept. 22nd (optional)
-Office Forms Due Back ASAP (deadline - Fri. Sept. 15th) (Mrs. Metheral will be sending home multiple forms that need to be filled out and returned to school for her office records.  Please return these forms inside the agenda and I will be sure to send them down to the office.

Milk Sales
Milk Sales will begin later on this month (date: to be announced). Your child may purchase white or chocolate milk for $1.00 or you can buy a sheet of milk coupons for $18.00 for 20 cartons of milk.  If you purchase milk coupons online, please write me a note in the agenda so I know to retrieve the sheet of milk coupons from the office.  I will keep milk coupon sheets in the classroom, and if your child would like to use a milk coupon that day, he/she can let me know.  I will collect milk money/coupons first thing in the morning and our milk helpers will bring milk to the class at second nutrition break.

Library Book Exchange
Mrs. Johnson is our librarian.  Once Mrs. Johnson has worked out her library schedule, I will let you know when our regular Library Book Exchange day will be.  Stay tuned for more information.

Volunteering
Typically I don't use parent volunteers on a regular weekly basis in my classroom, but there my be opportunity for volunteering on field trips and/or special days/activities in my class.  I will send home more information about volunteering in my class soon.  In the meantime, if you are hoping to volunteer at any point this year, you will need a valid criminal record check on file in the office.  You can call the office (705 445 1827) and speak to Mrs. Metheral if you have any questions about the criminal record check and the paperwork involved in this process.

I'm looking forward to an AWESOME year in Grade One!
